A digital meeting or a webinar with professor Julia Lohmann from Aalto University. The main language for the webinar is English, but you can comment or ask questions also in Finnish and Swedish.

The physical event Sjö i nöd – Meri hädässä – Sea in Distress at Hanaholmen – Hanasaari on 27th March 2020 is cancelled.

However, we want to offer you an opportunity to participate and engage in a digital meeting with professor Julia Lohmann on different cultural aspects of the Baltic Sea. We hope that this webinar or digital meeting with professor Lohmann will help us is organizing a better Sjö i nöd – Meri hädässä – Sea in Distress physical event, perhaps already in the late fall of 2020.

Designing beyond ourselves is the topic of prof. Lohmann’s talk during the webinar!

Julia Lohmann is Professor of Practice in Contemporary Design at Aalto University and founder of the Department of Seaweed. She will introduce her work in design, education and research and show how it connects science, nature and culture at different scales from molecules to ecosystems. Lohmann will discuss the importance of an empathic, collaborative and more-than-human mindset in addressing the challenges of a world in climate crisis, in particular those relating to the sea.

We will send a questionnaire to those who had signed up for the physical event. We will ask about topics they would like to raise to discussion during the webinar. We will send you this short questionnaire before Friday 20th of March and we wish you can answer it by Tuesday 24th of March.
